Importance of LinkedIn

The highlight of Foundation Workshops at Adianta has been Social Media Workshops which are targeted to enhance one’s Social Identity. Said that, one doesn’t need to be brilliant to make their social identities look logical, rather one has to stream line the information on one’s profile. One has to be short and crisp while putting up his experiences, skills etc. so that it only projects his major strengths and learning. The best tool to showcase your Professional Profile is LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. The goal of the site is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people they know and trust professionally. With over 300 Million users worldwide, LinkedIn is not alien to one who is updated with the Professional world.

The last workshop on SocMed was structured around LinkedIn. Well, I had been on LinkedIn since 2009 but I have not given much  importance to it. It was just another tool for me to put my experiences, education, awards etc. But what I learned here was mainly to build profile around 1) Skills 2) Work responsibility and 3) Logical Structure.

I was amazed to know that even though I had put almost all information on my LinkedIn Profile, on  a whole it did not blend with the information under different heads. I learned how to structure the work responsibilities and to focus on showcasing the skills that helped me most in my jobs. I found that the sections like Organizations, Projects, Awards etc. add a different attraction to your profile all together.

And I think reinvigorating your LinkedIn Profile is the first step to develop a competitive advantage in your professional stream. So get back into your work mode and structure your profiles. Do read this Awesome Career Advice From LinkedIn’s Billionaire Founder Reid Hoffman before you start, it might help. I am still working on my LinkedIn profile. Do have a look and let me know if I can be of any help.
